I have the honour toack the receipt of

Mayor-General Gascoigne's despatch No 356 of

the 12th of August on the subject of the allow

ances paid to members of the Contingent of

Hong Kong Volunteers

who visited England

on the occasion of H.M's Coronation.

I cannot agree that With Major-Gen Gas-

coigne that any blame attaches to Major Chap-

man in this matter. As you are aware, the

decision to pay these allowances was
